Toothpicks, 2008 by Chris Jordan – Depicts one hundred million toothpicks, equal to the number of trees cut in the U.S. yearly to make the paper for junk mail.
Lately I’ve been especially conscious on the build and quality of the things I buy. This article nicely summarizes why we need to go back to making good, strong products that will last. Have been having a lot of fun visiting MEC and army surplus stores lately just to check out the design of things.
As for the article’s philosophies. Even if you take away their ‘it’s for the environment’ argument, the benefits still outweigh this cluttered, non-nonsensical form of disposable consumer culture we’ve created.
doherty draws blood from the the young

Blood of the Young interviewed Bobby Doherty who makes some really dope super-current internet art. There’s an art history term for you – super-current. I’m going to mention that in my next class and drive everyone nuts.
Anyway, give it a quick read. Doherty’s wit definitely isn’t contained to only his art.

Andy Chung Designs Osculator Website

One of the million projects Andy Chung has been working on these past few months has surfaced to the internet in the form of a website for the people of Osculator – makers of the innovative software our friend Brian Park used to make his iPod Touch mashup.
The site looks fantastic Andy! Minimal and really lovely. Hopefully you have a bit more spare time now to work on your upcoming pro scootering career?
Fairey X Young

Shepard Fairey’s posters of Barack Obama became the iconic image of a historic campaign. After a bit of digging by a photographer and a blogger, it turns out that Fairey’s source material was a photo by Reuters’ veteran photographer Jim Young.

The Best of 200876543210
Lots of stuff happened this year. It’s been a great year. History will never forget this year for all the great stuff that happened.
To commemorate the wonderfulness that is this year, here’s the best things of this year (but not necessarily made this year. it’s just that I liked them this year, or right now, at this moment on the day before 2009)-

In we go!
BibliOdyssey

There are many .blogspot.coms in the world, but few can rival this one. The BibliOdyssey retreives eclectic historic science and art images from rare books and prints, and posts them online for the world to see.
What an absolute gem of a blog. Reading every post is like diving into random aisles of an old and forgotten library (sans dust and sneezing episodes). It’s flabberghasting, and sometimes overwhelming, how good the material is.
Descriptions are informative, and the pictures are on a different level. A few of my favourite posts from late 2008-

Clicking on images often rewards you high resolutionally.
And there is a Bibliodyssey book! Lovely lovely lovely.
Apparently the blog has been around since 2005 and possibly before, excuse my tardiness.
